Urinary system

The urinary system plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis of water and electrolyte concentration with in the body. The kidney produce urine that contains nitrogenous compounds, urea and uric acid excess of ion and some drugs.

The urinary system is the main excretory system and consist of the following structure:

  • 2 kidneys, which secrete urine.
  • 2 ureters which convey the urine from kidney to the urinary bladder.
  • The urinary bladder where urine collects and is temporarily stored.
  • The urethra through which the urine is discharged from the urinary bladder to the exterior.
